Dr. Eric Iglesias is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Medical Provider at New Choices Treatment Center in San Antonio, Texas. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of the Incarnate Word, where he developed a strong foundation in evidence-based practice, leadership, and holistic care.
Before advancing into psychiatry, Dr. Iglesias spent more than a decade as a registered nurse in critical care settings, including the emergency department, intensive care unit, and correctional healthcare. It was during his time working within the jail system that his passion for mental health was first ignited—witnessing how untreated psychiatric conditions and addiction often intersect. That experience inspired his commitment to pursue advanced practice in psychiatry and addiction medicine.
With over five years of experience in addiction treatment, Dr. Iglesias has worked in a variety of environments ranging from acute detoxification and residential programs to outpatient and long-term recovery settings. His clinical expertise includes the management of co-occurring mental health disorders, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorders, and individualized care planning that supports sustainable sobriety.
Dr. Iglesias is recognized for his compassionate approach, attention to detail, and patient-centered philosophy. He takes the time to understand each client’s story, providing care that integrates mental, emotional, and physical well-being. He believes recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey and works collaboratively with each client to develop a treatment plan that promotes healing, stability, and long-term wellness.
His excellence in care has been recognized nationally, as Dr. Iglesias was awarded the BayMark Medical Provider of the Year—an honor chosen among thousands of medical professionals for his clinical expertise, dedication, and outstanding patient care.
Outside of New Choices, Dr. Iglesias remains active in his community, serving as a youth baseball coach and mentor. He applies the same principles he brings to his clinical work—encouragement, structure, teamwork, and resilience—to help guide the next generation both on and off the field.
